Our commitment

We want emerxing.ca to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnification, or captions.

WCAG 2.2 Level AA is the standard we build to. We have not yet had this site independently audited against it, and we would rather tell you that than imply a conformance we cannot evidence. As a British Columbia private publisher our obligation arises under the BC Human Rights Code, which requires us not to discriminate in the services we offer to the public.

Where we currently stand

This is a small static site. These are the things we have built for and check as part of our own testing:

  • Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator
  • A skip link goes straight to the main content
  • Text and background colours are chosen to meet the 4.5:1 and 3:1 contrast ratios
  • Every image carries a text description of what it shows
  • Headings run in order, so a screen reader can navigate by structure
  • The site works at 200% zoom and reflows to a single column on a narrow screen
  • No content flashes, moves automatically, or requires a hover to reach

Known limitation. Our magazines are also published as digital editions through a third-party flipbook platform. Those editions are not fully accessible, and we will supply the content of any issue in an accessible format on request.

The print magazine

Our magazines are set in a minimum 10-point body face on uncoated stock to reduce glare. If you would find a large-print or plain-text version of any article useful, ask us and we will send one.

If any part of this site or our magazines is difficult for you to use, we want to hear about it, and we treat it as a fault to fix rather than feedback to file.
